The Niger State Government has awarded the construction of a 12-kilometre road linking Mokwa to Rabba at the cost of N7 billion.

Governor Muhammad Bago disclosed this during an on-the-spot assessment and sympathy visit to Mokwa following a devastating flood that claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

The governor said the road project, which includes the construction of four bridges, would begin immediately to reconnect the affected communities and enhance access.

“We are committed to rebuilding and preventing future disasters. This project is just one of many efforts to ensure better infrastructure and safety for our people,” Bago said.

He directed relevant ministries and agencies to conduct a comprehensive survey of the state’s waterways and topography with the aim of relocating residents away from flood-prone areas.

During the visit, the governor also oversaw the symbolic distribution of relief items to selected households affected by the disaster.

Bago later proceeded to Rabba to assess a bridge that was washed away by the floods, where he expressed sympathy and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the community during recovery efforts.
