President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred one of Nigeria’s highest national honours, the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), on American billionaire philanthropist and co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates.

The honour is in recognition of his decades-long contributions to global health, education, and poverty alleviation, including strategic partnerships with Nigeria.

Bill Gates was in company of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote to the Aso Rock Villa.

Gates was scheduled to visit Nigeria, where he was to meet with President Tinubu and other senior government officials to discuss efforts to strengthen the country’s primary healthcare system.

According to a statement released by the foundation’s media office, Gates will also take part in the Goalkeepers Nigeria event—an initiative focused on highlighting Africa’s progress and potential in innovation, particularly in health and technology.

During his visit, he is also expected to engage with scientists and partners involved in shaping artificial intelligence strategies and scaling up health solutions across the continent.

The visit comes on the heels of Gates’ major announcement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he committed $200 billion in funding over the next 20 years through the Gates Foundation to support global health and development, particularly across Africa.
