Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Kunmi Mustapha, has said Governor Seyi Makinde possesses the bravery and leadership qualities required to run for the presidency in 2027.

Mustapha, who now serves as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Governor Makinde, made the statement on Thursday while commemorating the sixth anniversary of the governor’s administration.

Describing Makinde’s performance as “visionary and transformative,” Mustapha said the Oyo State governor has recorded outstanding achievements in governance, which set him apart as a potential leader for Nigeria.

“Makinde has distinguished himself as a brave man who exhibits uncommon leadership traits.

“There has not been any politician in Yorubaland, apart from Pa Obafemi Awolowo, who has had a vision for the development of the masses and put all his heart into actualizing those visions,” Mustapha declared.

He made reference to Governor Makinde’s reforms in urban renewal, education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and social welfare, adding that the governor has prioritized the needs of workers, youths, and the elderly since assuming office in 2019.

“From agroeconomic initiatives to improved workers’ welfare, massive employment drives, and care for the elderly, Makinde has shown that governance can be both compassionate and effective,” he stated.

Mustapha also addressed the current state of the PDP, asserting that the challenges facing the party do not signal its demise.

Instead, he insisted the PDP is capable of mounting a strong challenge in the 2027 general elections.

“The PDP is not dead. The present internal issues do not mean we cannot snatch power come 2027. Nigerians are waiting for true leaders who understand their suffering and are ready to serve — and Governor Makinde fits that mold,” he added.

Calling on Nigerians to reject politicians who exploit public office for personal gain, Mustapha urged the electorate to support leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people.

He also lauded the efforts of PDP leaders such as Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Deputy National Chairman (South) Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and Chief Bode George, for their work toward uniting the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.

“Come rain or shine, we commit our loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde. We urge him to start work towards 2027 because Nigerians are waiting for him to rescue them,” Mustapha concluded.
