The Labour Party (LP) has declared that it would have provided better leadership and economic management than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whose two-year performance it described as deeply disappointing and burdensome for Nigerians.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, said the party had foreseen the current economic hardship, rising poverty, and insecurity currently facing the nation.
Ifoh said: “Nigerians are in the best position to judge whether their lives have improved or worsened over the last two years.
“How much is a bag of rice today compared to what it was two years ago? Are we safer on our roads and in our homes? What has become of the purchasing power of the average Nigerian?”
Ifoh noted that the economic indicators under the APC-led government paint a grim picture, with inflation now exceeding 42%, the naira exchanging for over N1,600 to the dollar, and petrol selling at more than N1,000 per litre.
He added, “We make bold to say a Labour Party government would have done a better job of managing the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians. The hardship being experienced across the country could have been mitigated with visionary leadership and people-centred policies.”
The statement comes amid growing public discontent over economic conditions and follows similar criticism by other opposition parties.
The LP urged Nigerians to reflect on their present realities and consider alternatives that can deliver inclusive governance and economic stability.
