The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has said that Nigerians are weary of the persistent hardship, insecurity, and unfulfilled promises under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Speaking during the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP held on Tuesday in Abuja, Wabara called on the party to rise to the occasion and reclaim its position as a credible alternative for national development.

“The journey of our party has been long, occasionally turbulent, yet always deeply rooted in our collective aspirations for a united, democratic, and prosperous Nigeria,” Wabara stated.

While acknowledging internal divisions within the PDP, he admitted that self-inflicted crises and lingering grievances have hindered the party’s progress.

However, he expressed strong confidence in the PDP’s resilience and the loyalty of its base.

“Fellow party members, the ordinary Nigerian is weary— weary of hardship, weary of insecurity, and weary of unfulfilled promises. They are searching for leadership that listens, delivers, and acts decisively. Let the PDP rise to this occasion,” he urged.

Wabara called on party elders, leaders, and stakeholders to prioritize unity and reconciliation.

“As the party of the people, we must recommit to healing these wounds and restoring faith among our members. As Chairman of the BoT, the conscience of the party, I call on all of us to embrace reconciliation — not merely as a political tactic, but as a moral imperative,” he said.

He also emphasized the need for inclusivity, encouraging the party to open its doors wider to the youth, women, technocrats, and patriotic Nigerians willing to contribute to nation-building.

“Let the PDP be known once again as the ‘big tent’ — inclusive, listening, and reflective of Nigeria’s rich diversity,” he stated.

Wabara further urged the party to strengthen its internal democracy, improve its communication strategies, and craft a people-centered vision that moves beyond mere opposition.

Concluding his address, he encouraged PDP members to reconnect with the grassroots with renewed energy and clarity of purpose.

“Let us return to the grassroots with a renewed spirit, a clear purpose, and a firm resolve to reclaim our place as the party that not only understands Nigeria but truly loves Nigeria,” he said.
