President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed insinuations that Nigeria is drifting into a one-party state under his leadership, stating that what is unfolding is a clear preference by Nigerians for the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the party’s performance in the past two years.

The President made the remarks at the APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit held on Thursday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. The event brought together APC stalwarts, including the National Working Committee (NWC), members of the National Assembly, and 22 governors under the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

Addressing the gathering, President Tinubu said, “A one-party system is not suitable for democracy. But people are aligning with APC because of the direction we are taking the country. You don’t expect anyone to stay on a sinking ship.”

He insisted that the APC’s growing appeal is tied to its commitment to economic reforms, good governance, and a clear developmental vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“In just two years, we have made the tough decisions needed to rescue the economy and lay a foundation for long-term growth. It’s not been easy, but nothing good comes easy,” Tinubu added, citing foreign investment inflows and structural reforms as indicators of progress.

The summit doubled as an endorsement platform, as party leaders and elected officials rallied behind Tinubu’s leadership and unanimously endorsed him for a second term in 2027.

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, led the charge by passing a vote of confidence in the President, a motion which was seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

The leadership of the National Assembly, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, also threw their weight behind the President’s re-election bid, describing his style as “purposeful and inclusive.”

APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, declared Tinubu the “sole candidate” of the party for the 2027 presidential election, urging members to close ranks and resist internal sabotage.

“Let us rally behind President Bola Tinubu. Support the policies. Build structures beyond elections. The Renewed Hope is not just a slogan—it must be a lifestyle for every progressive,” Ganduje said.

The summit reviewed developments in health, infrastructure, security, and the economy, with party leaders expressing satisfaction with the government’s pace of reform and implementation.
