The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has responded to speculation that he may serve as running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a public event in Kubwa, Abuja, where he donated to a school and hospital project run by the Anglican Church, Obi addressed the claims though indirectly.

“You can make of the report what you want, but I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” he said in response to a question on the alleged deal.

His remarks follow media reports earlier in the day suggesting that Atiku had proposed a power-sharing deal in which Obi would serve as vice president in a joint ticket. The report also claimed Atiku had offered to serve only one term and was open to formalizing the agreement in writing.

The alleged offer reportedly came during a private meeting between both men in the United Kingdom earlier this year.

Report also indicated that sources close to the discussions, who requested anonymity, claimed that Obi was open to the idea but wanted to consult his core supporters before making a public move.
