The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the South West Development Commission (SWDC) and appointing capable hands to lead it.
In a statement signed by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the Ooni described the move as a “historic turning point for the South West’s developmental trajectory.”
The revered monarch lauded the appointment of Dr. Charles Akinola as the pioneer Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the SWDC, describing him as a technocrat of outstanding pedigree with a proven track record in public service and international development.
The Ooni said Akinola’s background as a former Chief of Staff to the Osun State governor and his expertise in public-private partnerships and rural enterprise development made him an ideal choice to steer the commission.
“I urge Dr. Akinola to allow his rich experience to guide his leadership of the commission in tackling the infrastructural and socio-economic challenges of the South-West,” Oba Ogunwusi said.
He also applauded the appointment of Senator Olu Adetunmbi as the chairman of the board, and Princess Nike Omoworare, whom he described as a distinguished daughter of Ife.
He urged the appointees to approach their duties with integrity, focus, and a passion for delivering tangible benefits to the people.
