Former Kano State Governor and Kwankwasiyya movement leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has reacted to fresh rumours linking him with a possible defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso, who ran for president under the NNPP in the 2023 elections, has recently been the subject of speculation that he may be returning to the APC—a party he once left. There have also been unconfirmed reports that he reached an agreement with President Bola Tinubu to rejoin the party.

The most recent is claims that President Tinubu had personally asked Kwankwaso to return to the APC and that Kwankwaso allegedly replied he would rather quit politics than go back.

However, Kwankwaso has dismissed the viral statements attributing comments on recent political realignments to him, describing them as false and misleading.

In a message shared through his social media handles, he said:

“My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria.”

“I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.”

“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events and I will continue to do so for the time being.”

“In this regard, I urge the public to only engage statements that come from my public handles and other official sources.”
