Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested prominent businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday around 5:00 a.m., shortly after Achimugu arrived in Nigeria from London. Her legal team confirmed the development in a statement, noting that she returned to the country voluntarily.

Achimugu has been on the EFCC’s wanted list for over a month in connection with allegations of money laundering and other related financial offences. Her name was previously published in the commission’s bulletin among individuals being sought for questioning.

The arrest comes on the heels of a recent court order issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja, mandating her to present herself before the anti-graft agency.

The court directed that she must appear before EFCC investigators on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to respond to questions surrounding the ongoing investigation into alleged fraud.

As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not released an official statement regarding the arrest or the specific charges Achimugu may face.
