The attention of the Bayelsa State chapter of the peoples democratic party (PDP) has been drawn to a baseless and misleading report claiming that the State working committee of the PDP, led by Hon. Solomon Agwana (JP), has been dissolved, and that a new State Caretaker Committee has been appointed by the illegal, factional Zonal Executive Committee headed by Chief Dan Orbih.

EFCC Withdraws Fraud Charges Against Otudeko

While this narrative is clearly mischievous and laughable, the Bayelsa State Chapter of the PDP is compelled to address the issues raised, in order to set the record straight.

First and foremost, the tenure of the former Zonal Executive Committee of the PDP expired on March 13, 2025. To avoid a leadership vacuum, the National Working Committee (NWC), on the same day, constituted a Caretaker Committee headed by the highly respected Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to oversee the affairs of the Party in the South-South Zone, pending the conduct of an elective Zonal Congress.

Furthermore, the NWC officially declared the so-called factional Zonal PDP Congress held in Calabar, Cross River State—which purportedly produced Chief Dan Orbih and others—as unconstitutional and a nullity. It is important to clarify that even a properly constituted Zonal Executive Committee does not have the constitutional authority to dissolve a State Working Committee.

In a related matter, the case concerning the suspension of Mr. George Turnah is still pending before the State High Court. Until the court rules otherwise, Mr. Turnah remains suspended from the PDP in Bayelsa State.

It is unfortunate and deeply shameful that George Turnah, whose well-known greed remains unchecked, would attempt to hijack the position of the former Zonal Secretary, Prof. Felix Omemu—his one-time friend and confidant. Not content with this dubious act, he now brazenly parades himself as the State Chairman of a fictitious Caretaker Committee.

We urge Bayelsans, especially our vibrant youth, to reject Mr. Turnah’s underhanded tactics and refrain from lending support to any actions aimed at fostering disunity, disaffection, and chaos within our party.

The 2027 elections are fast approaching. We must all remain vigilant and resist any attempts by external forces to destabilize our beloved State.

Our Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has consistently demonstrated genuine commitment to the rapid transformation of Bayelsa. The best way we can support his ASSURED AGENDA for PROSPERITY is by remaining united and focused on the progress of our state and the well-being of generations to come.
