Senator Mudasiru Husain, a former lawmaker representing Osun West Senatorial District, has revealed the only condition that could make him step down from contesting the state’s number one seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement made available to The Reflector’s Newspaper, Senator Husain stated that he might consider withdrawing from the race if former Governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, decides to throw his hat into the ring.

The statement comes amid growing calls from political groups and stakeholders across the state urging Senator Husain to enter the race. Among the groups is the Osun Progressives Union (OPU), which has repeatedly urged the former lawmaker to join the race, citing his track record and political pedigree.

Senator Husain, while acknowledging the increasing demand for his participation, said his loyalty to the party and its stability remains his top priority.

“If the Honourable Minister, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, expresses interest in returning to the seat, I will not hesitate to support him. My focus is on the unity of our party and the advancement of Osun State,” he stated.

Senator has remained a visible force in Osun politics over the years. From his time as a two-term member of the House of Representatives in Lagos, to representing Osun West in the Senate and also serves as the Federal Commissioner representing Osun at the National Population Commission, Husain has built a reputation for integrity, legislative competence, and grassroots connection.

Senator Husain continues to receive endorsements from political stakeholders and community based organisations calling for his official declaration ahead of the 2026 polls.
