In a move set to reshape the political landscape of Osun State ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial elections, an independent political group, Osun Progressives Union (OPU), has officially thrown his weight behind Senator Mudashiru Hussein as a viable replacement for Governor Ademola Adeleke. Ogunseye’s endorsement signals a significant shift and has ignited discussions across political circles in the state.

As the tenure of Governor Ademola Adeleke approaches its conclusion, OPU emphasized the need for experienced leadership to sustain and further the developmental strides achieved in Osun. According to the Chairman of the group Hon. Jacob Ogunseye, Senator Husain possesses the leadership qualities, experience, and vision required to take Osun State to new heights.

Speaking during a press briefing in Osogbo, Ogunseye stated:

“Senator Mudashiru Husain is a proven leader with an impeccable track record of service to the people of Osun State. His dedication, transparency, and progressive vision make him the ideal candidate to continue the journey of transformation in our dear state. My decision to back him stems from his demonstrated ability to unite people and deliver results.”

Why Senator Husain?

Senator Mudashiru Husain is a seasoned politician who represented Osun West Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. Known for his grassroots engagement and impactful policies, he has gained widespread respect across party lines. His legislative achievements and commitment to the welfare of Osun citizens have positioned him as a credible contender for the governorship.

OPU highlighted key areas where Senator Hussein is expected to focus his campaign:

1. Economic Development: Promoting industrial growth and creating jobs to tackle unemployment.

2. Education: Advancing educational reforms and improving access to quality education for all.

3. Healthcare: Strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring affordable healthcare services.

4. Infrastructure: Expanding road networks and improving access to rural areas.

Call for Unity

OPU called on all stakeholders, party members, and residents of Osun State to rally behind Senator Hussein’s candidacy. He urged unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure a smooth transition and victory in 2026.

“This is not about political parties alone; it is about the future of Osun State. We must come together to support a leader with the vision and capability to lead us into a brighter tomorrow.”

Reactions and Expectations

The endorsement has sparked conversations among political analysts and residents alike. Supporters of Senator Husain have lauded OPU’s decision, describing it as timely and strategic. Meanwhile, opposition parties are expected to respond in the coming days as preparations for the 2026 elections accelerate.

As Osun gears up for what promises to be a defining moment in its political history, all eyes will be on Senator Mudashiru Husain as he charts his course towards securing the mandate of the people.
