The tragic tanker explosion in Karu, Abuja, on March 19, 2025, is yet another painful reminder of the dangers associated with fuel transportation in Nigeria. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this devastating incident. The loss of lives and destruction caused by these recurring tragedies demand urgent and decisive action.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s swift response ordering a thorough investigation and ensuring medical care for the injured is commendable. However, beyond immediate crisis management, long term solutions must be prioritized.

BREAKING: Atiku Resigns From PDP

The frequent tanker explosions across the country, such as the one in Suleja, Niger State, earlier this year that claimed over 70 lives, highlight the risks of our over reliance on fossil fuel transportation. Poor infrastructure, unsafe roads, and the desperate act of scooping spilled fuel continue to fuel this cycle of disaster.

Amidst this grim reality, the recent commissioning of Nigeria’s first Hybrid Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station in Abuja by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) offers a beacon of hope.

The initiative led by Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, and the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

By providing a viable alternative to petrol powered vehicles, projects like this have the potential to reduce the number of fuel tankers on our highways, thereby mitigating the risk of such tragic explosions.

This development is not just about technological advancement; it is a step toward a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable future. A nation embracing cleaner energy will experience fewer accidents, improved air quality, and economic growth driven by innovation.

However, the success of the EV Charging Station must not be an isolated achievement it should serve as a catalyst for broader reforms, including investments in electric mobility, alternative fuel distribution networks, and safer transport systems.

Tanker explosions are preventable tragedies, and the Abuja incident must serve as a turning point.
We commend Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Chief Uche Nnaji, once again and all stakeholders driving these critical innovations. Now is the time for sustained commitment to policies that will make fuel tanker explosions a thing of the past.
God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬

Media Team.
