The Niger Delta Intelligentsia Team (NDIT) has attributed the recent explosion of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, Ogoniland to sabotage, calling for thorough investigations into the incident.

The explosion, which occurred on Monday, resulted in a significant oil spill and fire outbreak, raising environmental concerns. While the exact cause of the incident remains unconfirmed, NDIT believes the event may be linked to the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Nse Victor Udoh, Secretary-General of NDIT, expressed concern over the timing of the explosion, noting that the TNP had experienced no major incidents for nearly a year.

“For about a year now, there have been no significant incidents on the TNP. However, recent developments and threats of vandalism in the region raise concerns,” Udoh stated.

He emphasized the need for security agencies to remain vigilant in protecting national oil assets, urging authorities to take all threats seriously, regardless of their origin.

“We call on security agencies to be proactive in safeguarding critical infrastructure. If incidents like this can occur despite previous stability, it is imperative that all potential threats—whether political or otherwise—are addressed with urgency,” he added.

Udoh further noted that while preliminary observations suggest possible sabotage, experts must conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause.

“Investigations are underway, and we must allow professionals to ascertain whether this was due to equipment failure or other factors. In the meantime, we urge the federal government and security agencies to intensify their efforts in securing vital oil infrastructure,” he concluded.
