The political crisis in Rivers State is escalating with the Ijaw National Congress (INC) strongly rejecting President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency.
The INC believes the move is hasty, unconstitutional, and favors Nyesom Wike, whom they accuse of making the state ungovernable for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The group has warned Tinubu that if anything happens to Fubara, he will be held responsible.
They also demand that Wike and other federal appointees from Rivers State be removed if the governor and lawmakers are dismissed.
This situation is becoming a major test for Tinubu’s administration, as various groups, including opposition parties and activists, continue to criticize the decision. Some believe the declaration of emergency was Wike’s backup plan to maintain control if legal and legislative efforts to remove Fubara failed.
