Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has refuted claims that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling the reports misleading.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Monday, Fayemi reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party, stating that he remains a founding member of the APC and has no intention of defecting

He explained that while he has consistently advocated for internal democracy and greater inclusiveness within the party, his stance should not be misinterpreted as a sign of his departure.

Fayemi emphasized that the APC still has an opportunity to embrace reforms and create a more inclusive environment.

“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.

“While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy,” he wrote.

His statement comes just hours after former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, announced his defection from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
