President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heart-felt condolences to the family, friends and associates of former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

The President was joined by Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun and presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi in paying tributes to the deceased medical doctor and politician.

Okupe, a former Special Assistant on Media and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonatahn respectively, reportedly passed on at a Lagos hospital after years of battling with prostate cancer.

In his condolence message yesterday, President Tinubu described Okupe as a bold and articulate advocate for national development.

The President regretted that the Director-General of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign in the 2023 elections passed on at a time his wealth of experience remained invaluable.

He also sympathized with the government and people of Ogun State, particularly Okupe’s Iperu-Remo community, noting that his death has left a void behind.

Tinubu prayed for the repose of Okupe’s soul and divine comfort for his loved ones.

On his part, Governor Abiodun, in a statement issued in Abeokuta by his Special Adviser on Media, Kayode Akinmade, described Okupe’s death as a personal loss, noting that his death came not long after the demise of the traditional ruler of Iperu-Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo.

He paid tribute to Okupe’s patriotic service to the nation and described him as a committed member of the progressive political family.

Governor Abiodun said: “Receiving the news of the passing of my elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has left me with a profound sense of personal loss.

“Without a doubt, his departure leaves a void that will not be easily filled.”

Obi on his part acknowledged Okupe’s contributions to the nation’s medical and political sectors.
