The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared himself the authentic Speaker of the House, saying he has resumed his position as the parliament leader.

Obasa made this known on Thursday after returning to the Assembly Complex under the protection of police and State Security Service operatives.

“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said.

It was his first time back since his removal on 13 January 2025.

Obasa arrived at the complex with more than 11 police officers and headed straight to the Speaker’s Office, ignoring his colleagues who were seen deliberating in the Assembly’s garden before his entrance.

His return follows a dramatic turn of events at the Assembly, where the security details of the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, were reportedly withdrawn.

Recall that police escorts assigned to Meranda had been removed with immediate effect, leaving both the Speaker and the Assembly complex without formal security cover amid the ongoing crisis.
