In a dramatic turn of events, 36 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have passed a vote of confidence in Speaker Mojisola Meranda, dispelling speculations of her resignation amidst reports of an invasion by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Assembly complex was thrown into tension on Monday following reports that security operatives had stormed the premises, allegedly in response to internal political wrangling.

The situation escalated as unconfirmed reports suggested that Speaker Meranda was being pressured to step down, further fueling concerns of a leadership crisis.

However, in a swift reaction, 36 out of the 40 lawmakers in the Assembly unanimously endorsed Meranda’s leadership, describing the allegations of her resignation as baseless and politically motivated.

The lawmakers insisted that the Speaker retains their full support and confidence in steering the affairs of the legislature.

The circumstances surrounding the DSS’s presence at the Assembly remain unclear, with conflicting reports suggesting either a routine security measure or an intervention linked to the political developments within the House.
