Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has denied reports suggesting he is considering running for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.

The clarification came after Adesina’s recent interview on Arise Television, where he expressed his willingness to serve in any capacity after his tenure at the bank ends. His comments fueled media speculation about a potential political ambition.

“I will be available to serve in any capacity, globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country, Nigeria,” he said during the interview.

However, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Adesina refuted the claims, saying his words were misinterpreted.

“A segment of my recent interview on Arise TV has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets,” he stated.

“For clarity and for the record, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria.”

Adesina, who was first elected as AfDB president in 2015 and re-elected in 2020, emphasized that the full interview is available online for context.
