Ange Postecoglou has hit out at the criticism of Tottenham Hotspur players after their FA Cup fourth-round loss to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Spurs were undone by goals in either half from Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers while new signing Mathys Tel scored a consolation goal in added time.

The defeat left Tottenham with only the Europa League as their hope for winning silverware this season, and while questions have been asked about the players, Postecoglou has defended their commitment having been ravaged by injuries for much of this season.

“People can judge me. They can say I’ve done a bad job, I’m not up to it or whatever. That’s fine,” the Australian said.

“What I’m saying is you can’t be critical of our players’ performances at this time.

“If you want to measure anything on what they’re doing at the moment, other than the extreme situation they’re dealing with, then I think your analysis is skewed and it’s not objective.

“If it’s to get rid of me that’s fine. Good on you. Go for it a million times. But in terms of this group of players, what they’ve given over the past two and a half months has been outstanding.”

Tottenham currently occupy 14th spot on the Premier League standings and will next host Manchester United on Sunday.
