The ancient city of Oyo was agog with excitement today as the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, arrived in the town shortly after receiving the Staff of Office from Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan.
Reflector Newspaper reports that residents poured out in their numbers with joy and cheers to welcome the new king. Traditional drummers and performers lined the streets, as Oyo came alive with celebration and cultural displays.
Oba Owoade’s arrival marks the end of a three-year vacuum left by the passing of the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, in April 2022. His reign, which lasted over five decades, left a significant legacy.
Oba Owoade will now proceed into a 21-day seclusion to observe traditional rites and spiritual preparations, a vital part of his coronation process.
