Reports of a national grid collapse in Nigeria have surfaced in some media outlets.
However, these claims have been debunked by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and numerous Nigerians across the country, many of whom confirm that they are enjoying uninterrupted power supply.
In a statement, TCN clarified that the grid did not collapse, contrary to the misinformation circulated yesterday. At approximately 1:41 PM, the Osogbo–Ihovbor line tripped, which in turn caused the Benin–Omotosho line to trip.
These incidents impacted electricity supply to the Lagos axis alone. Prior to the incident, total grid generation stood at 4,335.63MW as of 1:00 PM.
Following the tripping, generation dropped to 2,573.23MW. This indicates that the grid remained functional and did not experience a collapse.
TCN further explained that while the tripping affected key stations such as Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras, most of these have since been restored, with work ongoing to fully restore the Benin–Omotosho 330kV line.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has prioritized the power sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda, introducing reforms and initiatives to enhance energy generation, distribution, and reliability.
The recent Yuletide season provided a glimpse of the progress made, with many households enjoying uninterrupted power supply during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Efforts such as collaborations with stakeholders and investments in alternative energy sources are already yielding results, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to revitalizing critical sectors for national development.
Nigerians must remain vigilant and not fall prey to misinformation aimed at tarnishing the achievements of this administration.
Those spreading unfounded claims should desist. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for a brighter, more prosperous Nigeria is taking shape, and no amount of misinformation can derail his resolve to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda.
