South African singer, Tyla was crowned Top Afrobeats Artiste of the Year at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards on Thursday night, December 12.

The ‘Water’ crooner beat Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, and Asake in a category often dominated by Afrobeat stars from Nigeria to win the award.

She also won Top Afrobeats Song for her hit track, “Water.” She beat Adam Port & Stryv feat. Malachiii (Move), and Tems, (Me & U) to win the award.

Tyla, who has been making waves globally with her hit track ‘Water’, has earned several accolades, including the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in February 2024.

She became the youngest African artist to receive a Grammy at 22.
