Tragedy struck as residents of Ede in Osun State were thrown into shock and panic following a devastating early morning fire that claimed the lives of a family of six in the ancient town.

The incident, which occurred early on Monday, led to the tragic death of Tijani Kabiru, a customs officer in his late forties, his wife, and four of their children. The fire, reportedly caused by a spark from a solar panel, engulfed their home in the Akankan area of Olowopoku community.

Sources revealed that a teenage son, who was awake studying for his examination, was the only family member to survive. Despite his efforts to rescue his father and siblings, his attempts were in vain.

Confirming the incident, Adekunle Ibraheem, spokesperson for the Osun Fire Service, stated that the fire broke out around 3:21 a.m. on Monday. Fire teams from both the Osun State Fire Service and the Ede zonal command responded to the scene.

Ibraheem added that the four deceased children, three boys and a girl, ranged in age from 3 to 10 years old. The bodies of the victims were later handed over to the police.
