The Senior Pastor of The Second Coming of Christ’s Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has declared that Nigeria does not practice true federalism, hence some of the problems confronting the country.

Pastor Giwa said the 1999 Constitution gives overbearing powers to the executive at the expense of Nigerians.

Speaking on Glow FM in Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday, the clergyman insisted that God has no hand in Nigeria’s politics.

According to Pastor Giwa, most Nigerian leaders have no conscience.

He said: “Looking at the elections in the US, each state has an electoral college, which determines who emerges as the president.

“The difference with Nigeria is that we claim to practice federalism, but not true federalism, and the reason it’s not true federalism is that the nation’s president nominates the electoral commissioner. He recommends a name to the House of Representatives and Senate for confirmation.

“And it’s not possible to reject such a nomination because there is no decentralization of power—the executive controls the legislature and judiciary.

“Without the approval of the executive, the judiciary can’t get paid, and these are part of the things affecting our electoral system in Nigeria.

“We need to constitute a panel to review the 1999 Constitution, which gives the executive much overbearing power. If you look at Kenya, its government allowed citizens to have input in their constitution.

“If we want to amend the Constitution, we should allow citizens to have input by having representatives, like the 2014 Confab, which had representatives across the states.

“We no longer have representatives in the National Assembly; the Senate and Reps are just working for themselves. It’s possible to vote for Satan, and he will pretend as an angel, promising that if elected, he would deliver on his promises, but upon his victory, he would renege.

“If we want Nigeria to be better and improve on our electoral system, we need a reorganization.

“God has no hand in the current politics in Nigeria because a voodoo worshipper can wake up and choose to contest for the presidency and would make lots of promises, which would lead to his victory.

“When he assumes office, he would empower voodoo worshippers and make them more powerful than Christians, ordering the shutting down of churches—God has no hand in Nigeria’s current politics because our leaders have no conscience.”
