Israeli military said it carried out “strikes on military targets in Iran”, specifically targeting what it said were missile manufacturing sites responsible for producing missiles used by Tehran against Israel.
It also said it hit surface-to-air missile sites and “additional Iranian aerial capabilities”.
Iran’s air defence headquarters, in a statement, confirmed that bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran were targeted but the attacks were “successfully countered”. There was no immediate indication that oil or missile sites were hit.
Explosions could be heard in Tehran though Iran insisted they caused only “limited damage”. Iran’s army said two of its soldiers had been killed in the attack.
