As Nigeria proudly commemorates 64 years of independence, we reflect on the significant progress our great nation has made, confirming the resilience and determination of our people. This anniversary is a moment to celebrate our past achievements and an opportunity to look forward to a brighter future for all Nigerians, both at home and abroad. Nigeria remains a pillar of hope and leadership on the African continent, with a rich cultural heritage, boundless potential, and a dynamic populace.

As part of our commitment to inclusivity and democracy, this year’s celebration carries a special significance. As a leading advocate, the council is intensifying its efforts for the full participation of Nigerians in the Diaspora in the electoral process. We firmly believe that allowing Nigerians abroad to vote is essential to strengthening our democracy and deepening the connection between the homeland and the millions of citizens contributing to our national development from different corners of the world. As we celebrate this milestone of independence, we also emphasise the importance of granting Diaspora voting rights by amending the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As we honour this historic anniversary, the council reaffirms its commitment to this cause and calls on all government, civil society, and the international community stakeholders to support us. Ensuring the participation of all Nigerians, regardless of their location, will enhance the legitimacy of our elections and reflect the global nature of our nation’s influence. We remain committed to working towards this goal, believing that the involvement of Nigerians abroad will further strengthen our democracy and foster a more inclusive national identity.

Happy Independence Day!
