We as Nigerians living in diaspora, we ‘re compelled to share our thoughts on the upcoming nationwide protest in Nigeria.

While we acknowledge the constitutional right to protest, as guaranteed under Sections 39 & 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we also. recognize the potential consequences of unchecked demonstrations.

The recent protests in Kenya, which degenerated into chaos and destruction, serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of uncontrolled protests. Similarly, the 2020 End SARS protests in Nigeria, though well-intentioned, resulted in widespread looting, destruction of property, and loss of lives.

However, we. commend President Bola Tinubu for his efforts since assuming office, aimed at addressing the country’s challenges. His initiatives, such as student loans, minimum wage increases, and local government autonomy, demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

Nevertheless, we challenge him and his renewed hope team to expedite solutions to the pressing issues facing Nigerians.

The hardships in the country are evident, with rising fuel costs and increasing commodity prices, causing untold suffering for many citizens.

As Nigerians in diaspora, we are also witnessing the struggles of our nation and feel the pain of our fellow citizens.

We urge the government to listen to the cry of Nigerians and take swift action to alleviate their suffering. Implementing evidence-based relief programs to improve the quality of life for our citizens is crucial.

The government must protect protesters by securing their lives and properties during peaceful assemblies in approved locations, as designated by the Inspector General of Police.

We advise protesters to exercise their right to peaceful assembly, but also to be law-abiding and avoid violence.

Let us work together to build a better Nigeria, where the rights of all citizens are respected and protected.
