Senator Teslim Folarin, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the Senate, has raised concerns about the recent local government elections in Oyo State. Folarin, who was also the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in the last state elections, described the process as a “charade” and a “civilian coup.”
Folarin pointed out that, despite promises made by OYSIEC Chairman, Barr. Olagunju, the ruling PDP did not provide a level playing field for the opposition parties. This, he argued, demonstrated the ruling party’s awareness of its inability to win against the APC in a fair contest.
The former senator emphasized that these events were a major setback for democracy and good governance in Oyo State. He noted that Governor Makinde’s administration has consistently undermined the local government system, which has hindered progress and development at the grassroots level.
