The unifying power of football is undeniable. We’ve seen how it can bring people together and bridge divides, even during challenging times in our beloved Nigeria.

The sport has the ability to transcend politics and unite people in a shared passion and excitement.

Despite that football is a sports that brings people together and fosters unity, it’s important to understand that the high-stakes nature of the game can pose risks, especially for people that are nursing underlying ailments.

Recall that some Nigerians died while watching the mouthwatering semifinal clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Bayana Bayana of South Africa

This should serve as a stark reminder of this reality.

It’s crucial to prioritize one’s safety even outside football and sports games generally, most especially individuals with pre-existing medical conditions, which include high blood pressure, should exercise caution before settling down and watching high-intensity matches.

Truly, football brings joy and excitement but health and well-being should come first.

However, it’s important not to take the unity we derived from the round leather game for granted. Football should not be seen as a game that must be won at all costs, but rather as a platform for bringing people together and fostering a sense of community.

We can all learn from the unity that football brings, and strive to apply this sense of camaraderie and togetherness to other aspects of our lives. While we may not always agree on the results of a match, we can find common ground in our shared love for the sport.

With the Super Eagles readiness to face Cote d’Ivoire again in the final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, I wish the team all the best as they seek to bring the trophy home.

It’s been an incredible journey to the final, and the team has shown tremendous spirit and determination. I am confident that with the right strategy and focus, Super Eagles can again overcome the challenge posed by Cote d’Ivoire and emerge victorious.

So, Super Eagles, here’s to a well-fought and exciting final! Bring home the trophy and make the nation proud as you did in 1980, 1994 and 2013! 💚🦅🏆
