The Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC, says the country’s worth of non-oil exports declined to $4.5 billion in 2023 from $4.8 billion in 2022.

Nonye Ayeni, the Executive Director of NEPC, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during the presentation of the non-oil export performance for 2023.

Factors responsible for the decline, according to Ayeni, include political instability in many exportable countries, rejection of some of Nigeria’s products, and the exchange rate crisis.

She said NEPC is working to address the challenges.

“Considering that one of the significant challenges facing exporters is the issue of export rejection, the Council is already addressing the issues by collaborating with relevant authorities to create awareness, build capacity in the area of good agricultural practices, labelling and packaging and ensure adherence to quality and standards of our exports in the global market,” she said.

Ayeni added that Nigeria’s non-oil export volume in 2023 stood at 6.685 million metric tonnes of exportable products.
