The governor of Akwa Ibom, Gov. Umo Eno, has given his assent to the 2024 appropriation bill of N849.97 billion during an expanded Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Uyo. This final budget size signed into law indicates an addition of N4.3 billion from the original sum presented by the governor.

During the meeting, the governor called for an increase in revenue generation effort, emphasizing the need to pay greater attention to revenue generation in the 2024 fiscal year. He emphasized the importance of focusing on revenue generation over spending, citing the issue of inadequate revenue despite having a large budget in previous years.

Gov. Eno expressed his administration’s commitment to implementing strategies to increase the state’s internally generated revenue to accommodate the budget. He also urged relevant agencies to step up efforts in mobilizing revenue, particularly in encouraging people to pay their taxes.

Additionally, he commended the House of Assembly for their thorough consideration of the bill and their collaboration with relevant departments of the executive arm to ensure the timely passage of the budget.
