Notes On CRA’s Consultative Visit To Akwa Ibom State By Edet Eyo Bassey

The Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (CRA), former Speaker, Governor, Minister and former this and that, the in-coming President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and his entourage arrived the state to a tumultuous welcome by APC leaders and stakeholders amongst whom were; Atuekong Dr. Don Etiebet (CON), former Minister of Petroleum, Obong Umana Okon Umana, MD, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, immediate past Secretary (CECPC), Otuekong Sunny Jackson, former House Member, Senator Nelson Efiong and others.

CRA’s first port of call was the State Traditional Rulers Council hall where he was received in-council by the Chairman, Nteyin Solomon Etuk who is also the Oku-Ibom Ibibio. CRA informed Council members of the purpose of his visit and solicited their support to emerge the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He said he was committed to the stability and unity of Nigeria pledging his support for ONE NIGERIA. Speaking further, he said, “As President, I will be fair to all and treat every Nigerian equally”. After further interaction with Council members, His Eminence, Nteyin Solomon Etuk prayed for the Presidential hopeful wishing him guidance of the Almighty and good success in pursuit of his presidential ambition. He appealed to him to ensure that as President of Nigeria, he should endeavour to do everything humanly possible to unite the country, ensure its development and bring prosperity to the people.

Thereafter, our President in-waiting proceeded to meet with Party delegates and stakeholders. He apologised for keeping the delegates waiting for long hours which he adduced to logistic challenges in the course air transportation. In what many adjudge as a brilliant exposition, CRA asked the excited delegates; do I need any introduction? And the jubilant delegates chorused in response Noooh, The Lion of Niger Delta. Continuing, he said, “We have worked together before and we shall continue to work together. Akwa Ibom is important for us and we must all work together to secure victory for our Party in the state. You have seen what President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration has done in the power sector, roads, rails and other aspects of our national infrastructure. The coastal rail-line that will cut across the southern states through to Calabar shall soon come on-stream. Trust me, if you vote for me, things will change in this country. I know what poverty is; I have experienced poverty where rice meal is reserved only for festive occasions. My parents were poor. I evaded my landlord when rent was due. We must address poverty in our country because poverty is central to insecurity, kidnappings, armed robbery, violent crimes and criminality”.

Be assured that as president, I will put a stop to insecurity in our land. We did it in River state when I was the state Governor. You should ask questions about the source of wealth and riches of those who have come out to serve as President of Nigeria. How did they come about their wealth? Who were you and what were you doing before you became a big-man?
I have come to serve with courage. Let us leave it there. . .

In his response onbehalf of the delegates and stakeholders, Atuekong Don Etiebet expressed profound appreciation to CRA for the visit. He commended his courage and reminded him that as two-time campaign DG for Buhari, Buhari won both presidential elections in 2015 and 2019. He enthused, now as your own “campaign DG” you will win just as you won for Buhari. I assure you of one hundred percent untainted votes from Akwa Ibom state delegates.
