In his address titled, Aviation in Nigeria; management, policy and regulation, Captain Mshelia posited that majority of the problems confronting the aviation industry are man made and natural. “The natural is the Covid-19 pandemic, which has devastated, not only the aviation sector nay Nigeria alone.
He said that, the aviatiin standards, management, policy nd regulations in the global aviation sector is overnighted and supervised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)”. He therefore, suggested the review disect and fine tuning of some of the existing practices, which are considered to either retrogressive, archaic or not in conformity with global best practices.
He advised the regulators of the industry to understudy other countries such as the United States of America for the benefiy of operators and the growth of the aviation sector.
Also in his submission, Capt. Mshelia appeal to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to always do the needful as defined in their roles which include, provision of security and screening, offices and counters for airlines at the airports, the runways and tarmac to land and park aircraft, the conveyance of the passengers to and from tarmac and other services with a touch of class.
Consequently, while lamenting the high cost of operation’s, he encouraged the government go put in place a fair operational ground that will allow airlines to perform to optimum.
The idea of being forced to patronize the handling companies, which services, sometimes do not measure up to the niche or standard of airlines has caused many airlines to lose their passengers, he said.
