The coming elections in Edo will not be a battle between APC and PDP or Accord Party (whichever he aligns with) but between Oshiomole/Tinubu and those within APC who are opposed to them. And they are many and powerful. It is a proxy war.
However bad, inexperienced and ungrateful Obaseki has been, the battle has transcended Oshiomole and Obaseki. Edo has become a metaphor for the battle royal that 2023 will be. Edo is the venue of Act 1, Scene 1 of the gigantic battle of 2023 presidential elections. If Oshiomole defeats Obaseki, Jagaban’s hands will be strengthened and if Obaseki defeats Oshiomole, Jagaban will get the first black eye on the road to 2023.
If Obaseki wins, it is no indication of his superior acceptability in Edo State. If he suceeds in getting PDP ticket, he will not only enjoy the support and the resources of PDP States but also the resources of Governors and power brokers in the APC, the likes of El-Rufai, Fayemi, Ameachi, Amosun, Akeredolu and several other APC States’ Governors in the North.
For those who think this is a battle between Oshiomole and Obaseki, you gotta be kidding.
And then we move on to Act 1, Scene 2 in Ondo in October. Better grab your popcorn and Soda to watch this thriller that will terminate many political careers. It sure ain’t gonna be a tea party.
