DIRECT PRIMARIES: Edo Group backs Oshiomhole, says it will deepen Democracy.

A group known as the Edo Emerging Leaders Forum EELF, has lauded the decision of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress APC, in approving a direct primary for electing the governorship candidate for the forthcoming Edo State election, saying it will deepen internal democracy in the party.

The group was reacting to the decision by the party’s NWC to pick the governorship candidate of the party through direct primaries.

The APC Constitution provides for both direct and indirect primaries, but the direct option is more democratic and it is more participatory.

In a statement on Thursday, and signed by its publicity secretary Martin Itua, the group also commended the party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for leading the party toward greater democracy, which means increased participation of all party members in key decisions that affect them.

The group applauded Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for sustaining the confidence of the party in his leadership, as the chairman, by ensuring improvement of democracy within the party in the overall interest of the people.

The group further described Comrade Oshiomhole has a man of courage and sound conviction, who will always do his best, to bring about something better and new.

“Comrade Oshiomhole deserves the support of every stakeholders within the party, particularly in Edo state, towards leading the party towards a landmark victory in the forthcoming governorship election.

The group said it is sure, that APC members in Edo welcome this decision for it shines the rays of democracy more fully upon them.
