Senate Approves Durunguwa NPC Commissioner

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Dr. Abdulmalik Durunguwa as Commissioner of the National Population Commission NPC.

This decision followed the consideration of the report of the Committee on National Identity Card and Population Commission presented by its Chairman, Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi Kaduna South during today’s plenary.

The confirmation of the nominee had last week been deferred owing to some observations made about his academic qualifications, the Committee was asked to carry out further legislative work.

After going through the report, some lawmakers queried the academic qualification of the nominee.

To avoid yet another stalemate, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, therefore, put the report of the Committee to a voice vote.

Meanwhile, the Senate has referred to its Committee on FERMA, President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for Senate’s confirmation of the nomination of Tunde Lemo as Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency [FERMA] along with seven others as members of the Agency’s Governing Board.

Also at Thursday’s plenary, the Senate stood down the consideration of the report of the Committee on INEC on the Electoral Act amendment Bill 2010 till next week Tuesday.
