2019: Dino Melaye To Get PDP Automatic Ticket, Thousands Set To Leave Party

The alleged imposition of Dino Melaye as the People Democratic Party’s candidate for the forthcoming general election has been met with counter rejection first by one of the leading aspirants Hon. Sunday Karimi as we have earlier reported but it seems the idea keeps witnessing more rejection from a lot of others.

The Kogi West Senatorial District is seeing as the only area out of the three Senatorial Districts across the State where PDP can boast of supremacy in this current dispensation with two members of House of Representatives from there in persons of Hon. Sunday Karimi and Hon. T.J. Yusuf.

Both Karimi and Yusuf are in their second term in office and can boast of massive fans and loyalists which mean their defection could adversely affect the performance of the party in the 2019 election which is likely going to be with the alleged imposition of Senator Dino Melaye by the party’s hierarchy.

The western Senatorial District people of the State were said to be diehard supporters of the People Democratic Party but the party was set to lose these loyal people as a result of what they tagged “the unrepentant impunity” from the big men of the party at the Party Secretariat, Wadata House in Abuja. They called on the party leadership to drop any attempt of an automatic ticket to any aspirant advocating for a level playing ground for the entire aspirants to flourish without any show of favouritism to anyone but channel all their activities to ensuring that the atmosphere is conducive for all of them to operate. They argued that giving an automatic ticket to Dino is a big slap on their faces as a people insisting that it is the pick of injustice.

“Increase in bread’s price without consultation? If not for impunity, how can the leadership of the party in Abuja agree to sign MoU that they expected to be binding on us without consultation with us? What do they expect to be the reactions of the people who has stayed put to this party through thick and thin? Why are they afraid of letting a level playing ground for everyone? Why signing MoU with ‘new comers’ and contemptuously abandoning the original members?

If PDP is to be seen to win election, the issue of automatic ticket in Kogi West must be killed and annihilated as soon as possible. Everybody should be allowed to go and face their people at the primaries. A level playing ground should be provided for all. As a people and committed party members, we know those who can win elections for our party. Why so much desperation to give automatic ticket that will not win the general election? A man that cannot even move freely to campaign in the State is the one they want to force on us. What will happen to other National Assembly members who have been committing time and resources to sustain the party if they are interested in the same position?

We are meeting and watching, any attempt to impose anybody on us thereby denies other people their constitutional right, we will leave the party. We are tired of impunity and we say no to automatic ticket in Kogi West.” Said one of the aggrieved members of the party who spoke passionately.
