Omisore Absent At SDP’s Guber Primary

Sen. Iyiola Omisore, who recently publicly declared his intention to run for governorship election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was on Wednesday absent at the primary conducted by the party.

His absence put to rest rumour of his defection from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to SDP.

The senator had denied that he defected to SDP.

Mr Munirudeen Atanda was selected as the governorship candidate of SDP in the September 22, Osun governorship election.

Atanda was picked on Wednesday at the party’s primary, which took place at the SDP Secretariat on Gbongan road, Osogbo, amid tight security.

Sen. Iyiola Omisore, was also listed as aspirant on the ballot paper, he and his supporters did not participate in the exercise.

Chief Ademola Ishola, the SDP Chairman in the state, told party members after the exercise to disregard the insinuation that another faction of the party exists in the state.

Ishola also called for dedication from members, urging them to reach out to residents of the state to support SDP in the governorship election.

NAN reports that the primary election was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the National Orientation Agency.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently debating the modalities of its primary.
