The Lagos State Government today met with stakeholders and residents of the Lagos International Airport Road and environs on the planned reconstruction and upgrade of the Oshodi-Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) road as part of efforts to prevent any impediment or delay in executing the project.

The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Engr. Adebowale Akinsanya, who represented the State government at the forum, said the desire of the present administration to transform the entire axes of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport road informed its reconstruction.

He stated that the redevelopment of the International Gateway will enhance vehicular movement from the Airport to Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and its immediate environs such as Ikeja metropolis, Isolo and Mafoluku axis as well as eliminate the traffic gridlock and reduce travel time in the area.

Engineer Akinsanya, however, noted that the State Government is aware that there are bound to be some inconveniences during the construction period but assured that measures have been put in place to mitigate the impact on residents, motorists and commuters who ply the route.

He solicited the cooperation, support and understanding of all users of the road, informing them to remember that the ultimate goal is to facilitate improvement in the quality of life and overall standard of living of communities within the vicinity of the project.

The representative of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, at the meeting, Surveyor Remi Aromiwura said the agency is very pleased with the decision of the State Government to reconstruct the road into what is obtainable in the developed world and pledged the cooperation of the agency in the timely delivery of the project.

On his part, the Managing Director of Hitech Construction Ltd. Mr. Ivan Becker promised timely delivery of the job, adding that the presence of officers of LASTMA and the State Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development along the route will aid free flow of traffic and speedy execution of work.
