The National Chairman of Young Democratic Party (YDP), Barrister Georgina Dakpokpo, has urged meddlesome interlopers who are taking advantage of the newly registered political party to defraud innocent citizens in some states to stop the illegal act or face the wrath of the of law.
She made this known during the maiden meeting of the party held at Ade Super Hotel in Akure, the state capital, noting that impostors are taking advantage of the fact that the party is young and it is yet to be introduced to other states, thereby using the avenue to defraud people.
Dakpokpo, who was represented by the National Secretary of the party, Hon. Bolaji Oni, said enough is enough for those she described as opportunists, warning them to desist from such acts, while she prayed that nemesis catches up with them very soon.
She said, “we are ready for them and anytime we catch them, we will hand them over to the law enforcement agencies, we have written a letter to the Inspector General of Police about the issue.”
The National Chairman advised the general public to be wary of such people who claim to represent YDP with a bulb logo.
According to her, YDP’s logo is a tractor with a bulb, while those claiming to be members are impostors.
She debunked any leadership tussle in the party, saying, neither is there any faction within the party, because those impostors were never part of the party.
“We are here to warn them to desist from putting the name of our party in disrepute.
“Our party is for Nigerian youths that have something to offer. Youths that can offer something different from what we have been seeing in the past.
“Youths are ready to take over the leadership position of the country. We are ready to show to the world that we have the capacity to build a nation in line with the dream of our founding fathers.
“The Not Too Young To Run Bill came at a time millions of Nigerian youths are yearning and agitating for a place in governance in the country .
“It is a sign to show that God is behind the youths of this country.
“Before it was passed, we have already agitated for it. So, when it was finally passed, we just keyed into it,” he stated..
He said the bill is not accidental to the youths, but they are prepared for it.
Ondo State Chairman of the party, Comrade Olakunle Adanri, thanked all the party leaders at the meeting , noting that Ondo State was chosen to host the maiden meeting because of its relevance..
“Our political vibrancy can not be overemphasised being the political headquarters of South West. Action Group was formed in Owo, Ondo state, under the leadership of late Chief Adekunle Ajasin.
His words: “there is no crisis in the party. It’s just that some groups of people who are not members of our party are using the name of our party to extort innocent citizens with bulb logo, claiming to be members of our party.
“We are using this medium to warn them to desist from such act”.
