For allegedly stealing goats valued N500,000, five men, have been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Oke-Eda in Akure magisterial district.
The accused persons that were brought before Magistrate G. O Awodeyi are facing charges of conspiracy, felony and theft.
The accused persons and others at large committed the offence between the month of April, 2012 to the 22nd August, 2017, at daytime at Ifeoluwa community in Akure, in Akure magisterial district.
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 516, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Martins Olowofeso, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file properly and to assemble his witnesses before the court.
Counsel to the first, third and fourth defendants, Barrister Felix Afe, did not oppose the adjournment application moved by the prosecutor.
He however urged the court to grant his clients bail in most liberal term, promising the court that they will not jump bail.
Barrister A. O Oladeyi and Barrister Grace Obanigba, representing the fifth defendant, urged the court to grant their client bail in liberal terms.
They assured the court of credible and reliable surety who would stand for the defendant.
In his ruling, Magistrate G. O Awodeyi, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum each.
He added that the surety must be resident in the court jurisdiction and must provide a tax clearance for the current year while the address of the surety must be verified by the court police.
He thereafter adjourned the case till 19th September 2017.
