The party’s statement came as the race for the takeover of government house gathers momentum.

Its chairman, Mr Edward Okoye told newsmen in Awka, the State capital about the upcoming convention and primary election of DA slated for August, 29.

Mr Okoye said arrangements had been concluded as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, security agencies and as the national executives of the party led by its chairman, Frank Ukonga, would be there to ensure smooth conduct and hitch free exercise.

He said that about “three aspirants had already shown interest to fly the flag of the party in the State.”

‘No preference’
The chairman also stated that there would not be any preference for anyone as the party believed in the principles of democracy.

Mr Okoye said clearly that the party does not exclude anyone who wishes to contest under the party irrespective of political zone.

According to him, “though zoning formula is good for the growth of democracy and good governance, DA will only go for zoning when Inter-party Advisory Committee-IPAC and other stakeholders in Anambra converge and agree on the principles of zoning”.

“Our party has all it takes to win the governorship election because we not only have members in the 21 Local Government Areas that make up the State; we are also rooted and has come to liberate the people,” the chairman stressed.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the electoral umpire, INEC to conduct a credible, free and fair election.
